Residents' Prayers Read out in Church
3rd March 2010
Village life is proving to be very beneficial with residents at Breage House contributing to the heart of the community

Residents at Breage House have proved to be a very popular part of village life since the Home opened in 2006 and over the past few months have become involved with the very heart of the community after inviting the Vicar of Breage Church, Penny Prince, in to their Home to talk about religion.

Steve Mclean, Home Manager at Breage House asked Vicar Penny to work with residents on a spiritual level to explain how Christianity could fit into their lives. He wanted residents to know what it meant to be Christian so they could make an informed decision for themselves on whether they wanted this to be part of their lives.

The result was, what should have been a six week course on confirmation, has turned into 5 months of learning, with Vicar Penny and Reverend Sharon helping residents to understand, amongst other things, love and relationships.

The residents have embraced the chance to learn about these aspects of their lives from a spiritual perspective and were asked by Reverend Sharon if they would like to write some prayers as part of the learning process. A range of prayers have been written on heart shaped paper, highlighting the importance of residents' relationships with family, friends and community.

Prayers range from the simple " Please God, what can I say? I am happy, smiling and excited" to expressions of gratitude "Dear God, thank you for everyone at Breage House" and requests such as "Keep Vicar Penny and Reverend Sharon well".

As well as the prayers being read out during Sunday service, (where they caused a few eyes to well up), they have also been published in the local paper, The Cornishman.

Since the Home opened, villagers have been welcomed in to Breage House for events and parties, while the residents and their families have enjoyed using the local facilities, such as the shop and post office and pub.

Steve Mclean, Manager of Breage House said “Our residents love being part of the community at Breage and we are delighted to be recognised by the church and villagers in this way”.
