Couple Celebrate 70 Years of Marriage at The Poldhu

July 27th was a special day for Howard and Betty Porter this year as they spent the day with friends and family celebrating their platinum wedding anniversary.
Howard and Betty were bought together by a love of Wolverhampton Wonders. Betty was unable to get a ticket to watch Wolves play and Howard gallantly offered to take her. Although the match resulted in a 0-0 draw for Wolves against West Ham, their romance blossomed and they married on July 27th 1940, with Howard being given a long weekend off by the RAF for the ceremony.
Howard and Betty now live together at The Poldhu; Betty moved in first and Howard walked to see her everyday from Mullion before deciding to move in himself. Howard says “I am so proud to have spent 70 years with the same person.” Their daughter Sue Sullivan who celebrated the day with them said her Mum and Dad have “stuck together, gone through ups and downs and come through it all.”
