Station Villa

Good

Close to some of Cornwall’s most stunning beaches and within walking distance to the shops and amenities in the town of Hayle in west Cornwall, Station Villa provides long term care for adults with a range of learning disabilities including Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome.

People were treated with kindness, compassion and respect. Staff took time to speak with the people they were supporting. We saw many positive interactions and people enjoyed talking to staff. Comments included; “The staff are lovely” and “I love it here. I really like my key worker, she is lovely”. Staff were trained and competent to provide the support individuals required.

Breage House

Requires Improvement

Within easy walking distance to the village shop, post office, church, pub and community centre in the picturesque village of Breage in west Cornwall, Breage House provides residential care for adults with a wide range of learning and/or physical disabilities.

We observed people interact with each other and with staff in a way that was unrestricted and spontaneous. People were seen to be relaxed with each other. People we did talk to were looking forward to the day, some going to visit relatives, and were heard to be making choices about the day ahead. People liked their rooms.

Cross Keys

Good

A contemporary home, opened in October 2012, with easy access to Penryn town centre and close to Falmouth and Truro. Cross Keys offers long term residential care and respite care for adults with a range of learning and physical disabilities.

Support was geared towards individual needs and communication preferences were recorded and taken into account. Staff were able to communicate effectively with the people they supported and varied their approach in accordance with each person’s individual preferences. Staff enabled people to make meaningful decisions about their lives and respected people’s decisions and wishes. People were supported to lead full and varied lives and staff supported people to engage in a wide variety of activities. One person’s relative told us, “It can be difficult to get hold of [the person] as they are always out doing things”.

The Poldhu

Trevaylor Manor

Good

Specialising in dementia care and care for people with failing mental health, Trevaylor Manor is beautifully situated in a tranquil valley just 2 miles from Penzance.

People were treated with dignity and respect by the staff. During our inspection we observed about 30 of the 67 people living in the home and we spoke with one visiting relative. Everyone we spoke with told us they felt safe. One person told us “I like living here and my room is nice”. A relative told us “All the staff are 100%, and accidents are dealt with immediately. If I had any complaints about my wife’s care they would be dealt with immediately”.
