Ponsandane occupies a prominent site on the outskirts of Penzance with stunning uninterrupted views across Mounts Bay towards St Michael’s Mount. The original building dates from late Georgian times and was the home of the Bolitho family who were bankers, tin-smelters and tanners, in addition to being one of the major landowners in the area. Ponsandane is set in beautiful grounds and was built on a grand scale. Its beautiful drawing rooms with ornate ceilings and fire places are now comfortable lounges for our residents and are a special feature at the Home.
Respite Care
Ponsandane offers respite care packages providing necessary breaks for carers and families. A respite stay can be for a couple of days, a few weeks or longer. Costs are dependent on the choice of room and the level of care required.
Residential Care
Our residential care packages are for people who no longer want the burden of running a home, or for those who may find themselves alone perhaps after losing a partner and wish to enjoy the companionship of others. As Ponsandane also provides nursing care there is no need to go through the trauma of finding a new home should your care needs increase. Our residential care packages can also be combined with our nursing packages for couples who want to stay together when one partner needs nursing care. Costs of our residential care packages vary depending on size and location of your chosen room.
Nursing Care
Our nursing care packages are provided by professional, qualified nurses for people who require general nursing care to those needing more specialised levels of care. Costs are dependent on room size and location and the level of nursing care required.
Physically Disabled Care
Ponsandane offers nursing and residential care for people under pension age who are physically disabled. Costs are dependent on the level of care required.
At Ponsandane we have a dedicated Recreational Co-ordinator who ensures there is a wide range of social and leisure activities offered to residents appropriate to age and medical condition. These activities are varied and include attending outside clubs, community based events and trips out in our specially adapted minibus. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable time and can be received in rooms or lounges.
Eating well gives a joy to life and contributes immensely to goodwill and happy companionship. Our three qualified and experienced chefs make use of fresh local produce to offer residents a varied menu that caters for all tastes. Requests for favourite foods are welcomed, and any special diets can be catered for.
Ponsandane offers a choice of meals that can be taken in the restaurant overlooking the gardens, sitting comfortably alone or amongst friends; residents may also choose to dine in their rooms if they wish. Family are always welcome to join residents for meals with prior notice.
